Our Children will also serve him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done. Psalm 22:30-31
Here in New York we have learned that the traditional “Sunday School” is only one way of providing for spiritual development and formation. New York Nazarenes have discovered that daily encounters of one-to-one discipleship, weekly small group meetings, seasonal retreats, and a host of other venues are all effective means for growth among the followers of Jesus Christ.
The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to "Make Christlike Disciples in the Nations". To that end, we encourage our Metro New York congregations to provide means and resources for a lifetime of spiritual development for growing Christians. The author David Platt encapsulates our goal of equipping our people when he says, “According to Jesus, people are God’s method for winning the world to himself. People who have been radically transformed by Jesus. People who are not sidelined to sit in a chair on Sundays while they watch professionals take care of ministry for them. People who are equipped on Sundays to participate in ministry every day of the week. People who are fit and free to do precisely what Jesus did and what Jesus told us to do. Make disciples.”
